AMMAN — Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ayman Safadi and Egyptian Minister of Foreign Affairs, Emigration and Egyptian Expatriates Badr Abdel Aati on Saturday discussed ways to enhance bilateral relations and reviewed regional developments, as part of the ongoing coordination and consultation between the two countries.

In a phone call, Safadi and Abdel Aati reiterated the depth and strength of the longstanding relations between Jordan and Egypt, and their shared keenness to broaden prospects for bilateral cooperation across various economic and investment fields, while building on existing coordination mechanisms in a manner that serves the interests of both nations.

The two ministers stressed the need to uphold the ceasefire agreement and fully implement its provisions in line with US President Donald Trump’s plan, according to a Foreign Ministry statement.

They also underscored the importance of allowing sufficient and sustained humanitarian aid into Gaza, advancing towards the second phase of the agreement, announcing the formation of a Palestinian technocratic committee to manage the Strip, deploying an international stabilisation force, and creating the conditions necessary for early recovery and reconstruction.

They also stressed the need to preserve the unity of Palestinian territory between the West Bank and the Gaza Strip, and to link stabilisation efforts to a clear political horizon that achieves a just and comprehensive peace based on the two-state solution.

Safadi and Abdel Aati warned of the dangers posed by Israel’s illegal measures in the occupied West Bank, which risk triggering further escalation, undermining de-escalation efforts, and eroding prospects for achieving a just peace based on the two-state solution as the sole path to security, stability and lasting peace in the region.

The two ministers also discussed developments in Syria and Lebanon, stressing the importance of achieving security and stability in Syria, respecting its sovereignty and territorial integrity, and ensuring the safety of its citizens.

They emphasised the need to stop Israeli attacks on Lebanon and reaffirmed their support for Lebanon, its security, stability, sovereignty, and efforts to strengthen its national institutions.

Safadi and Abdel Aati also expressed their full rejection of Israel’s announcement recognising the Somaliland region, affirming their complete support for the sovereignty of the Federal Republic of Somalia and its unity and territorial integrity, describing these as a fundamental pillar for stability in the Horn of Africa and the Red Sea region.

The two ministers also stressed their support for all efforts aimed at achieving calm and de-escalation in Yemen, and backing dialogue among Yemeni parties in a way that ensures Yemen’s security and stability, respects its sovereignty, and meets the aspirations of its people.
