AMMAN — Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ayman Safadi on Wednesday met with Syrian President Ahmad Al Sharaa at the People’s Palace in Damascus to discuss bilateral ties and regional developments.

 

During the meeting, attended by Syrian Foreign Minister Asaad Al Shaibani, Safadi conveyed His Majesty King Abdullah’s greetings to Al Sharaa and reaffirmed Jordan’s support for Syria and its keenness to strengthen the historic fraternal ties between the two countries.

 

Al Sharaa conveyed his greetings to His Majesty, stressing the depth of bilateral ties and the two countries’ keenness to expand cooperation in various fields, according to a Foreign Ministry statement.

 

Safadi and Shaibani also held expanded talks on strengthening Jordanian-Syrian relations and developing them into a comprehensive strategic partnership, with a focus on practical and institutional cooperation across various sectors.

 

The two ministers also discussed preparations for the third session of the Jordanian-Syrian Higher Coordination Council, scheduled to be held in Damascus in October, and reviewed the implementation of the outcomes of its second session, held in Amman in April.

 

They stressed the need to translate agreements into practical measures, particularly in trade, investment, transport, customs, water and energy.

 

Safadi reiterated Jordan’s support for Syria’s reconstruction on foundations that safeguard its unity, sovereignty, security, stability, territorial integrity and citizens, stressing that Syria’s security and stability are essential to regional security and stability.

 

He also welcomed the announcement of the dissolution of the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) and their integration into Syrian military institutions, describing it as an important step towards strengthening Syria’s unity, security and stability.

 

Safadi and Shaibani discussed developments in southern Syria and efforts to implement the Jordanian-Syrian-US roadmap to resolve the Sweida crisis and stabilise southern Syria, based on Syria’s territorial unity and ensuring the security and rights of all Syrians.

 

They condemned repeated Israeli attacks and incursions into Syrian territory, stressing the need to halt them as violations of Syria’s sovereignty and territorial integrity and breaches of international law and Israel’s obligations under the 1974 Disengagement Agreement.

 

The ministers also called for an end to the Israeli occupation of Syrian territories and all interference targeting Syria’s security and stability.

 

They discussed regional developments, stressing the need for continued coordination to end escalation, restore calm and achieve lasting security and stability.

 

The ministers condemned Iranian attacks on Jordan and other Arab countries and affirmed full solidarity in confronting them.

 

Shaibani affirmed Syria’s support for Jordan and other Arab countries in measures taken to protect their territories, sovereignty and security.

 

The two ministers also agreed to maintain consultations and coordination between relevant authorities to follow up on cooperation and implement agreed measures, further strengthening bilateral ties and serving the interests of both countries and their peoples.
