AMMAN — Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ayman Safadi on Monday participated in the 166th Ordinary Session of the Council of the League of Arab States at the ministerial level. 

 

Safadi chaired the 11th meeting of the Arab ministerial committee tasked with international action to confront illegal Israeli policies and measures in occupied Jerusalem and held talks with several of his Arab counterparts attending the session, according to a Foreign Ministry statement.

 

Safadi stressed the need for sustained joint Arab action to counter illegal Israeli measures aimed at entrenching the occupation in the occupied Palestinian territories.

 

He warned that continued Israeli aggression threatens to escalate the situation in the occupied West Bank, deepen the catastrophe in Gaza, undermine prospects for a just peace and jeopardise regional and international security and stability.

 

Safadi also underscored the need to implement the outcomes of the ministerial meeting in support of Jerusalem and its holy sites, hosted by Jordan on August 5, 2026, and called for intensified joint efforts to protect occupied Jerusalem and its Islamic and Christian holy sites.

 

He stressed that Jordan will continue to exert every possible effort to preserve the historic and legal status quo of the holy sites through the Jerusalem Waqf and Al Aqsa Mosque Affairs Department, affiliated with the Ministry of Awqaf, Islamic Affairs and Holy Places, as the sole legal authority responsible for administering Al Aqsa Mosque/Al Haram Al Sharif and regulating entry.

 

Safadi reiterated Jordan’s absolute support for Syria in its efforts to rebuild a free, independent and unified Syria, expressing solidarity with Syria in confronting Israeli aggression.

 

He also reaffirmed Jordan’s support for Lebanon, its security, stability and sovereignty, backing the Lebanese government’s efforts to exercise its sovereignty over all Lebanese territory.

 

He also stressed the need for the withdrawal of Israeli occupation forces from occupied Lebanese territory and compliance with existing agreements and UN Security Council Resolution 1701.

 

Safadi also underscored the importance of maintaining the ceasefire between the US and Iran and reaching a comprehensive solution that addresses the root causes of tension, based on principles that ensure respect for international law, non-interference in states’ internal affairs and good-neighbourly relations.

 

He condemned the Iranian attacks on Jordan and Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) member states, reaffirming solidarity in confronting such acts of aggression.

 

Safadi also highlighted the need to intensify Arab efforts to resolve the crises in Sudan, Yemen and Libya in ways that preserve the security, stability, sovereignty and unity of these countries and meet the aspirations of their peoples.

 

He also reiterated the need to strengthen joint Arab action to address common challenges and protect Arab interests and causes.

 

Safadi expressed appreciation to Bahrain’s Minister of Foreign Affairs Abdullatif Al Zayani for Bahrain’s efforts during its presidency of the 165th Ordinary Session and wished Tunisia’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Migration and Tunisians Abroad Mohamed Ali Nafti success in presiding over the current session.
