JPC launches emergency measures to streamline online shopping deliveries

The Jordan Times

AMMAN — Jordan Post Company (JPC) Director-General Hanadi Tayeb said on Tuesday that postal parcels arriving in Jordan through the global postal network are delivered on schedule without delays, while e-commerce shipments handled by private courier companies have experienced some disruptions.

Speaking to Al Mamlaka TV, Tayeb said that authorities have established an emergency response system to address the delays, adding that coordination with the Customs Department has enabled high readiness to redirect e-commerce shipments through land and sea crossings, with land transport already in operation.

Tayeb also stressed that e-commerce shipments and postal parcels arriving via the Jordan Post typically enter through Queen Alia International Airport, where no delays are reported, while shipments managed by private couriers depend on the air traffic schedules in their countries of origin.

The official also noted that many parcels were routed through a logistics hub in Dubai and then flown to Jordan via approved airlines. "This process has now shifted from air to land transport to expedite delivery. Sea transport has not yet been utilised, though authorities are prepared to employ it if necessary, in coordination with the Jordanian Logistics Syndicate representing land, sea, and air shipping intermediaries."

Regarding seasonal variations, Tayeb noted that the volume of e-commerce shipments fluctuates monthly, often rising during high-demand periods such as the approach of Eid Al Fitr. "The current period is expected to see increased parcel volumes compared with typical months."

Tayeb emphasised that postal parcels, mail correspondence, and e-commerce shipments arriving through the Universal Postal Union or the global postal network continue to enter Jordan smoothly and without delay, primarily via Queen Alia International Airport.

To manage the anticipated surge, the Unified E-Commerce Centre for Express Delivery operates 24/7 with specialised staff from the Customs Department and Jordan Post’s logistics team. The centre handles shipment processing, customs clearance, and delivery in cooperation with relevant companies.

On potential cost implications of shifting shipments from air to land or sea, Tayeb confirmed there has been no impact on postal or e-commerce shipping rates, adding, "Most shipments are prepaid and cleared at the recipient’s address. She added that land transport is generally less expensive than air, as is sea transport, but prices have remained stable to date."
