The Jordan Times

AMMAN — The Royal Jordanian Navy and Royal Boats on Thursday signed an agreement with Turkey’s defence industry company ASFAT to construct five medium-sized military vessels.

The ships are set to carry out coast guard duties, protect maritime borders, and conduct search and rescue operations, according to a Jordan Armed Forces- Arab Army (JAF) statement.

The agreement was signed at Istanbul Naval Shipyard by the Commander of the Royal Jordanian Navy and Royal Boats on behalf of the JAF, and by ASFAT’s General Manager on the Turkish side.

The move comes as part of ongoing efforts to enhance operational capabilities and strengthen readiness in safeguarding territorial waters and supporting humanitarian missions.

The Commander of the Royal Jordanian Navy and Royal Boats described the deal as a major milestone in bilateral defence relations, emphasising the trust placed in Turkey’s naval industries. He added that the agreement paves the way for expanded cooperation and sets the stage for future partnerships.

ASFAT’s General Manager welcomed the confidence shown by the JAF, noting that the vessels will be equipped with advanced navigation, communication, and rescue systems, enabling them to operate efficiently under all maritime conditions.

The project forms part of the JAF’s broader modernisation and development plans, aimed at enhancing the Royal Jordanian Navy and Royal Boats’ operational readiness, strengthening maritime security, and safeguarding national interests in line with the latest technical and tactical standards.
