The Jordan Times

AMMAN — National exports rose by 11.2 per cent in January compared with the same month in 2025, while re-exports fell by 11.9 per cent, according to the Department of Statistics’ (DoS) monthly foreign trade report.

Total exports, including national exports and re-exports, increased by 5.3 per cent, while imports declined by 9.8 per cent year-on-year, contributing to a 25.7 per cent reduction in the trade deficit.

The total export coverage of imports rose to 60 per cent in January, up from 51 per cent a year earlier, marking an improvement of nine percentage points, Al Mamlaka TV reported.

Total exports during the month reached JD 899 million, comprising JD706 million in national exports and JD193 million in re-exports. Imports amounted to JD1,503 million, leaving a trade deficit of JD604 million, a decrease of JD 209 million compared with January 2025.

The rise in national exports was concentrated in key sectors, including apparel and related products, nitrogenous and chemical fertilisers, jewellery and precious stones, raw phosphate, and raw potash.

The decline in imports reflected lower shipments of crude oil and its derivatives, machinery and mechanical appliances, and vehicles, including cars and motorcycles, DoS said.

By trade partners, the increase in exports was mainly driven by higher shipments to North American Free Trade Agreement countries, including the US, non-Arab Asian countries such as India, and EU members, including the Netherlands.

Meanwhile, the drop in imports was largely due to reduced purchases from Greater Arab Free Trade Area countries, including Saudi Arabia, North American Free Trade Agreement countries, non-Arab Asian nations such as China, and EU countries, including Germany.
