AMMAN — His Majesty King Abdullah received a phone call from Germany President Frank-Walter Steinmeier on Tuesday, during which they discussed current developments in the region and ways to de-escalate tensions.

His Majesty emphasised the need for all parties to respect the sovereignty of states and to utilise dialogue and diplomacy to resolve crises, reasserting that Jordan will continue to take all necessary measures to protect its security, sovereignty, and ensure the safety of its citizens, according to a Royal Court statement.

The King warned of the dangers of attempts to exploit the ongoing conflict in the region to create new facts on the ground in the West Bank, Jerusalem, and Gaza.

Also on Tuesday, His Majesty King Abdullah received a phone call from The Gambia President Adama Barrow, whose country is chairing the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC)’s 15th session of the Islamic Summit Conference.

The call addressed the repercussions of current escalations in the region and Iran’s attacks on Jordan and a number of Arab countries, another Royal Court statement said.

His Majesty emphasised the importance of stepping up international efforts to achieve calm through dialogue and the use of diplomatic channels, and warned of the dangers of exploiting current developments as a pretext to violating the freedom of worshippers to access Al Aqsa Mosque, and changing the status quo in the West Bank and Gaza.

For his part, President Barrow stressed the need for restraint, respect for international law, and protection of civilians in the Middle East.
