Investment Minister tours Dead Sea development zone to boost investment, accelerate development

AMMAN — The Minister of Investment, Tariq Abu Ghazaleh, carried out on Monday a field tour in the Dead Sea Development Zone, as part of the government's efforts to enhance the development and investment momentum and accelerate the pace of development of the region.
The visit included a tour of a number of projects, facilities, infrastructure and investment opportunities under construction and development, as the zone includes 20 existing investment projects, in addition to 9 future projects, with an estimated investment volume of JD875.25 million.
Abu Ghazaleh stressed the importance of the Dead Sea region as one of the most prominent tourist destinations in the Kingdom, stressing the need to advance development efforts and improve the quality of services, according to the Ministry's statement.
He also stressed the need to seize the "competitive" advantages and "unique" nature of the Dead Sea, in order to raise the region's competitiveness as an attractive investment destination
Abu Ghazaleh pointed out that the zone provides around 3100 job opportunities, stressing the need for development efforts to be "directly" reflected in the "reality" of development in the region and the local community, by expanding the provision of job opportunities and contributing to supporting the local and national economy.
He added that the ministry was able to recover about 390 dunums of land that were not developed or fully utilised in actual projects, in a step aimed at remodelling them within investment projects that contribute to stimulating the economic movement.
The minister noted that work is underway to update a "comprehensive" plan of the region according to recent studies, and to provide qualitative investment opportunities based on; advantages of the site, and support the diversification of the tourism product, and benefit from the therapeutic properties of the Dead Sea and hot water.
Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Jordan Group for Development Zones and Free Zones (JFDZG), Sachir Ajlouni, praised the level of follow-up and cooperation with the Ministry of Investment, stressing that this contributed to accelerating the implementation of projects and improving the investment environment.
