AMMAN — HRH Princess Muna on Monday chaired the first meeting of the Advisory Council of Al Oun for Alzheimer's Patient Care Association, in her capacity as honorary president of the association and chairperson of its advisory council.
In her opening remarks at the meeting, held at the King Hussein Club, Princess Muna welcomed the council members, noting that their diverse expertise would provide a qualitative boost to the association’s mission, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported.
The princess commended the efforts of the administrative and general assemblies in raising awareness about Alzheimer’s and providing essential support to those living with dementia, their families, and caregivers.
Princess Muna called for the establishment of a national registry for dementia, describing such humanitarian work as a national and societal duty.
She highlighted the pivotal role of the advisory council in providing scientific and technical counsel, as well as developing strategic plans and outreach programmes to support patients and their relatives.
During the meeting, Karim Qawar was named vice chairperson of the advisory council. Members expressed their commitment to utilising their professional backgrounds to bolster the association’s future initiatives.
President of the association’s administrative board Reem Abu Hassan delivered a detailed presentation on the organisation’s history, committees, and key achievements.
These include community awareness programmes for university students, training for medical staff, and the development of psychosocial support services.
Abu Hassan highlighted the "Eye Locate" initiative, an innovative technology launched by the association to identify dementia patients who may wander from their homes by using rapid and secure eye-scan technology.
She also touched upon a cooperation agreement with the White Beds Society to establish a day club and various activities for Alzheimer’s patients.
Abu Hassan discussed ongoing coordination with the Higher Council for the Rights of Persons with Disabilities to establish a joint registry.
The meeting reviewed future priorities, particularly coordination with the Ministry of Health to work on a national plan for dementia.
Discussions also focused on creating a framework for cooperation between the advisory council and the administrative board to expand the association’s national impact, in line with its vision and mission.
