Manufacturing sector GDP reaches JD1.6b in Q1 2026

AMMAN — The manufacturing sector's gross domestic product (GDP) reached JD1.6 billion during the first quarter of 2026, according to a report on the executive programme of the Economic Modernisation Vision (2026–2029).
 
Key achievements included publishing Jordan Ecolabel Regulations No. 1 of 2026, adopting its official logo, and conducting awareness sessions on certification requirements and privileges, according to Jordan News Agency, Petra.
 
Under the local entrepreneurship employment initiative, the "Entrepreneurship in Industry" programme was launched with 35 million euros from the Industry Support and Development Fund to assist 370 micro, small, and medium-sized industrial enterprises, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported.
 
To boost exports, the final draft of the National Export Strategy (2026–2029) was completed alongside a potential export market study.
 
In the chemical sector, a JD250,000 agreement was signed between the Ministry of Industry, Trade and Supply and the Industrial Research and Development Fund to support at least 8 researchers or institutions.
 
For business environment improvements, the Industrial Designs Law was reviewed under the "Facilitated Manufacturing" initiative.
 
Requirements were also gathered for European Union approval to export composite food products.
 
To support the garment sector, 5 promotional webinars were held for investors across Europe, Turkey, Bangladesh, Uzbekistan, and Asia.
 
In engineering, 15 Fourth Industrial Revolution training courses benefited 285 engineers, while 21 engineers across 16 companies were trained in mold and product design.
 
A promotional webinar was also held to attract semiconductor manufacturing to Jordan.
 
In the pharmaceutical sector, drug registration was accelerated and automated.
 
Jordan became the second Arab nation admitted to the Pharmaceutical Inspection Co-operation Scheme (PIC/S).
 
A mobile app for reporting side effects was launched, alongside a platform for drug leaflets.
 
New pricing rules for vascular stents and heart valves were approved by the High Committee for Drugs and Pharmacy to lower treatment costs, Petra reported.
