AMMAN — Jordan has condemned an Iranian attack on a UAE-flagged tanker operated by Abu Dhabi National Oil Company (ADNOC) as it transited the Strait of Hormuz, calling the incident a violation of international law and a threat to maritime security and navigation.

 

In a statement on Tuesday, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said that Jordan rejected and condemned the attack and expressed its full solidarity with the United Arab Emirates.

 

The ministry also reiterated the Kingdom’s support for the UAE and its right to take the measures it deems necessary to safeguard its security, stability and national assets.

 

The UAE on Saturday said that Iran had targeted a tanker belonging to the state-owned ADNOC while it was transiting the Strait of Hormuz.

 

The UAE foreign ministry in a statement condemned what it called a "hostile Iranian attack that targeted a tanker belonging to ADNOC with a missile while it was transiting the Strait of Hormuz, without causing casualties".

 

Later on Saturday, the United Kingdom Maritime Trade Operations (UKMTO) said a ship was hit by a projectile off Oman in the Strait of Hormuz, causing a fire that was extinguished but no casualties, AFP reported.

 

On Friday, ADNOC had put out a statement saying that since the start of the war, 15 of its vessels had been attacked in Hormuz, "including three vessels this week alone".
