Hundreds of Trucks Stranded After Nasib Crossing Closure

The Jordan Times

Hundreds of trucks, vehicles and passenger buses became stranded along the road leading to the Jaber border crossing after the Nasib border crossing between Jordan and Syria was closed in both directions by a decision of Syria’s General Authority for Land and Sea Ports.

The trucks and vehicles lined up along a stretch of about three kilometers after being prevented from entering the Jaber border crossing, raising concerns over the potential impact on transported goods.

The decision to close the Syrian side of the Nasib crossing came after airstrikes carried out by the Royal Jordanian Air Force targeted sites in southern Syria, amid reports that Jordanian vehicles had come under attack near the crossing.

The Jaber border crossing is a major land gateway for transport and trade in the region, linking Jordan with Syria and facilitating the movement of trucks between the Gulf countries and Europe. More than 350,000 trucks have passed through the crossing so far this year.

Traffic authorities are working to regulate the movement of the trucks and vehicles stranded along the international highway, amid the disruption to cross-border traffic as travelers and truck drivers await the resumption of operations at the crossing.
