AMMAN (JT) - Minister of State for Economic Affairs Muhannad Shehadeh has underlined the pivotal role of the transportation sector as a major driver of Jordan's economy and a key contributor to the targeted growth outlined in the Economic Modernisation Vision (EMV).

In remarks made during a sectoral working session held Saturday at the Prime Ministry, Shihadeh highlighted the transportation projects in the vision, which has garnered the attention and support of His Majesty King Abdullah, the Jordan news agency, Petra, reported.

“These projects are seen as essential to boosting the national economy and improving citizens’ quality of life,” he said.

Shihadeh pointed out that the EMV, which spans multiple government terms, places substantial focus on transportation infrastructure due to its direct and profound impact on both the economy and the everyday lives of Jordanians, Petra reported.

Key transportation projects

Shihadeh spoke about a number of key transportation initiatives, including the alternative roads project, which is designed to create modern, efficient, and optional routes.

He stressed that these projects, developed according to the highest international standards, will provide citizens with safer, more comfortable travel options, while also reducing travel time, distance, and costs. “The projects aim to alleviate traffic congestion, a growing challenge in major urban areas.”

The minister emphasised that these transportation projects carry a strategic importance for the country, attracting significant interest from investors. “Work on these projects is progressing steadily, with notable advancements in agreements and project implementation.”

Shihadeh also reaffirmed the government’s commitment to the EMV, describing it as a “long-term, cross-governmental initiative.”

"The government is fully dedicated to executing the vision, as evidenced by ongoing working sessions aimed at launching the second phase of the executive program.”

He also underlined the essential role of the private sector in realising the vision’s goals. "We are confident in the private sector’s importance in implementing the vision. The collaborative nature of the government-private sector partnership is driving forward the economic agenda.”
