AMMAN — The Cabinet reshuffle will be limited in scope and is being carried out to meet a constitutional requirement following the merger of the ministries of Education and Higher Education and Scientific Research under the name “Ministry of Education and Human Resources Development,” the Prime Minister’s Office said on Monday.

 

The reshuffle in Prime Minister Jafar Hassan’s Cabinet will include the appointment of two deputy prime ministers to strengthen and support the Economic Modernization and Services committees, the office said in a statement.

 

The two deputy prime ministers will be given greater authority to follow up on key government portfolios and projects, with the aim of speeding up implementation and improving the pace of government work.

 

The government’s priority at this stage is to press ahead with major national projects that are considered essential to Jordan’s economic and development needs and cannot be delayed, the Prime Minister’s Office said.

 

It added that the relevant ministers would continue overseeing these projects to ensure their completion. The government will also focus on legislation and draft laws supporting Jordan’s political, economic and administrative modernization efforts.

 

The office said Hassan is seeking to establish a different approach to managing his Cabinet, based on accumulated experience and greater cohesion among ministers.

 

Hassan has not appointed any new ministers since the first Cabinet reshuffle, which took place during the first year of the government, the office said, adding that approach reflects a preference for maintaining stability within the Cabinet, giving ministers sufficient time to carry out their responsibilities and allowing them to remain accountable for the portfolios they oversee.
