AMMAN — Industry, Trade and Supply Minister Yarub Qudah on Wednesday attended a dialogue session organised by the American Chamber of Commerce in Jordan (AmCham-Jordan) under the theme "Jordanian-American Economic Relations: A Business Leaders' Vision."

 

The session brought together US Ambassador to Jordan Jim Holtsnider and representatives of Jordanian and American businesses, during which Qudah said the recently signed Jordan-US Reciprocal Trade Agreement marks a new phase in economic cooperation and complements the existing free trade agreement between the two countries.

 

He added that the agreement aims to expand private sector opportunities by covering trade in goods and services, investment, digital trade, market access, regulatory practices and supply chains, based on mutual benefit and balanced trade relations, according to a statement by Ministry of Industry, Trade and Supply.

 

The minister also noted that the agreement provides additional benefits for a wide range of Jordanian products in the US market, particularly garments and textiles, and is expected to boost demand for national products, attract new investment, expand production and exports, and create more jobs for Jordanians.

 

Qudah said economic ties between Amman and Washington extend beyond traditional goods trade, noting that bilateral services trade approaches $2 billion annually across tourism, aviation, financial and professional services, telecommunications, information technology and research and development.

 

He highlighted untapped opportunities in digital services, engineering, finance, business services and creative industries, stressing the need to shift towards greater direct investment alongside trade.

 

Qudah also called for strengthening Jordan’s position as a regional hub for production, investment, innovation and exports, supported by its strategic location, skilled workforce and network of trade agreements.

 

He stressed the government’s commitment to working with the chamber and private sectors in both countries to connect Jordanian companies with US supply chains and investors and turn the agreement into tangible opportunities for businesses.
