AMMAN — The overall pass rate for the 2026 General Secondary Education Certificate Examination (Tawjihi) reached 65.3 per cent, Director of the Examinations Department at the Ministry of Education Mohammad Shehada said on Monday.

 

Speaking at a press conference, Shehada said that the pass rate for the 2026 national exam is the highest ever recorded in the history of Tawjihi.

 

According to Shehada, the pass rate in the academic stream stood at 68.1 per cent, with 116,366 12th-grade students passing the exams.

 

He said that the pass rate in science-oriented fields, which include health, engineering and technology, reached 70 per cent, while humanities-oriented fields encompassing languages, law and business recorded 65.4 per cent.

 

In the vocational and technical stream, pass rates by discipline were recorded as follows, Information Technology registered 79.2 per cent, engineering 56.1 per cent, hairdressing and beauty 53.5 per cent, business 52.8 per cent, hospitality 52.4 per cent, and agriculture 49.7 per cent.

 

Shehada pointed out that this year’s results mark a “major” milestone with the graduation of the first cohort of students from the vocational and technical stream, who enrolled when the programme was first introduced in the 2023/2024 academic year across six specialisations.

 

He explained that the stream aims to equip students with skills required by the labour market and supply it with a qualified workforce.

 

Shehada also said that enrollment in these disciplines has grown significantly, noting that the number of offered specialisations will expand to 14 in the upcoming academic year to provide broader options for students and align educational outcomes with market needs.

 

Regarding private-study candidates, 55,065 students registered, of whom 44,170 sat for the exams. A total of 26,040 students passed, yielding a pass rate of 59 per cent.

 

Shehada added that this year’s results reflected a notable rise in overall average scores, a trend not witnessed over the past five years.

 

Shehada congratulated the successful students and their families, wishing them continued success.

 

Addressing those who did not fully pass this session, he stressed that the result is not the end of the road and that opportunities remain open for them to succeed in future rounds.
