AMMAN — Government spokesperson Mohammad Momani on Sunday said that no evacuation orders had been issued for Aqaba Airport or the Aqaba seaport, affirming that both facilities continue to operate normally.

Momani said that the relevant authorities in the southern port city had not ordered the evacuation of either facility and stressed that any potential security threats would be communicated through official channels in accordance with established emergency procedures.

He added that warning sirens would be activated immediately if necessary and said Jordanian authorities had not recorded any potential threats over the past hours.

The US Embassy in Amman said on Sunday that Jordanian authorities had evacuated Aqaba's international airport and seaport due to what it described as "a specific and credible threat."

"Due to a specific and credible threat, Jordanian authorities evacuated the international airport and seaport in Aqaba. We strongly advise all Americans to refrain from traveling to either the airport or seaport. Continue to follow all Jordanian authorities' security directives," the embassy said in a statement.
