The Jordan Times

AMMAN — Total individual indebtedness in Jordan reached JD14.312 billion at the end of the first quarter of 2026, up from JD14.1 billion in the same period of 2025 and JD13.951 billion at the end of the fourth quarter of last year, according to Central Bank of Jordan (CBJ) data cited by Al Mamlaka TV.

Residential loans accounted for the largest share of individual debt, reaching JD5.754 billion at the end of March, a marginal 0.2 per cent increase from the first quarter of 2025, but down as a proportion of total debt compared with the previous quarter.

Vehicle loans rose by less than 1 per cent year-on-year to JD1.865 billion, while declining by nearly 2 per cent from the end of 2025.

Personal loans continued to grow, reaching JD4.664 billion, up 3.2 per cent from the first quarter of 2025 and 2.7 per cent from the previous quarter.

Credit card debt also continued its upward trend, reaching JD565 million, an increase of 4.8 per cent year-on-year and 1.4 per cent compared with the end of 2025.

Meanwhile, consumer loans fell by more than 17 per cent year-on-year to JD1.051 billion and declined by 3.6 per cent from the end of 2025.

The decline was attributed to a shift in credit facilities towards personal loans, as well as tighter bank lending policies for consumer financing.

Service loans, covering education and primary healthcare, recorded the sharpest growth, rising 53 per cent year-on-year to JD26 million and nearly 82 per cent compared with the end of 2025.

Financing for other purposes reached JD387 million between January and the end of March 2026.
