AMMAN — The Consumer Protection Directorate has prepared a "corrective action plan" to address a manufacturing defect in 2022 and 2023 JAC E10X and JAC E10X SEHOL vehicles that may cause a sudden stoppage while driving, according to a statement by the Ministry of Industry, Trade and Supply. 

 

The directorate, affiliated with the Ministry of Industry, Trade, and Supply, said Thursday it had received 53 complaints by Wednesday regarding the defect.

 

Technical and field inspections conducted by a joint committee with the Jordan Standards and Metrology Organisation, using manufacturer diagnostic equipment, found strong indications of a recurring manufacturing defect linked to the vehicle’s main battery or its battery management system (BMS).

 

Based on the final technical report, the directorate prepared measures that include suspending the sale and circulation of vehicles currently in stock, placing warning labels on them, and informing prospective buyers of precautionary measures.

 

The proposed plan would also require the manufacturer and its agent to inspect all 188 registered vehicles of the affected models and address the root cause of the problem within three months, while submitting periodic reports to the ministry and the Standards and Metrology Organisation.

 

The manufacturer and agent would also be required to provide written guarantees that repairs will be carried out free of charge to vehicle owners.

 

The technical report will be sent to China’s State Administration for Market Regulation (SAMR) to determine what measures have been taken regarding the issue.

 

The Consumer Protection Directorate said it will conduct monthly random checks to assess the effectiveness of the repairs and take legal action against any party that fails to comply with the required measures.
