AMMAN — The Jordan Customs Department (JCD) has reinforced staffing levels at the Omari border crossing in preparation for the summer travel season and the return of expatriates.
JCD Director General Ahmad Akalik said that the move aims to facilitate and accelerate procedures, ensuring the smooth movement of passengers and cargo through the border post, according to Al Mamlaka TV.
The decision comes amid a noticeable increase in traffic at the crossing. Official figures for May showed a rise in passenger, vehicle and freight movement, according to JCD.
During the month, customs, security and regulatory authorities processed more than 350,000 passengers, over 120,000 vehicles and upwards of 50,000 cargo trucks.
Akalik also said the additional staffing forms part of a comprehensive plan to enhance operational readiness and improve services provided to travellers, investors and the transport sector, while maintaining high standards of customs and security control.
He noted that the department continuously monitors traffic indicators at border crossings and takes proactive measures to accommodate anticipated increases in passenger and cargo volumes, particularly during the peak summer He also commended the efforts of security and regulatory agencies operating at the Omari crossing, stressing that close coordination among all stakeholders contributes to greater efficiency and smoother border operations.
