AMMAN — The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has strongly condemned the Iranian ballistic missile attack on Jordanian territory, as well as attacks targeting UAE, Bahrain, Qatar and Kuwait.
In a statement on Saturday, the ministry said that Jordan would continue to take “all available and necessary measures” to safeguard the safety of its citizens and protect the country’s security and sovereignty.
The ministry expressed Jordan’s “absolute solidarity” with the affected Gulf states, affirming that the Kingdom stands firmly alongside them in confronting any actions that threaten their sovereignty, security and stability.
It also said that Jordan would continue working with regional and international partners to help de-escalate tensions and reinforce security and stability across the region.
The statement stressed the need for restraint and underscored the importance of diplomatic solutions and dialogue to resolve crises and preserve regional security.
Minister of Government Communications Mohammad Momani said on Saturday that Jordan was closely monitoring regional developments, emphasising that the top priority is safeguarding the country’s security and the safety of its citizens.
In remarks to the Jordan News Agency, Petra, Momani said that the Jordan Armed Forces- Arab Army (JAF) has successfully intercepted two ballistic missiles targeting Jordanian territory.
The minister added that some debris fell in various locations across the Kingdom, which was handled by the relevant authorities who took the necessary measures.
He also stressed the importance of following safety guidelines issued by security authorities, avoiding rumours or anything that might cause anxiety, and relying solely on official sources.
Momani reassured citizens that the JAF is fully prepared to respond to any emergency, with all formations and units positioned to counter any threats to the Kingdom’s security and stability.
Momani added that that the JAF has taken the necessary measures to support units deployed along the border and have activated military cooperation mechanisms with allied and friendly nations.
Regarding passenger traffic to and from the Kingdom, he emphasised the importance of contacting airlines directly to confirm flight schedules in advance, noting that some delays in air traffic are expected.
Jordanian air defence systems “successfully” intercepted on Saturday two ballistic missiles targeting Jordanian territory, according to a senior military source from the Jordan Armed Forces-Arab Army (JAF).
AFP correspondents in the Saudi capital Riyadh heard loud explosions on Saturday, after Qatar and a US base in Bahrain were struck.
Two correspondents in Riyadh said they heard a loud bang and several explosions, after Iran vowed retaliation following US and Israeli attacks.
JAF said its air force was conducting sorties on Saturday to protect the Kingdom and its people, as Israel and the United States launched strikes on Iran.
"The sounds heard in the skies over a number of areas of the Kingdom are from aircraft belonging to the Royal Jordanian Air Force, which are carrying out routine flights as part of their operational duties," a military source said, after sirens were reported in Amman.
"These sorties are part of aerial reconnaissance and inspection operations aimed at maintaining the safety of Jordanian airspace and ensuring that it is free from any attempts at infiltration or illegal activities," the source added.
Meanwhile, sirens were heard in Amman on Saturday after the United States and Israel launched a wave of strikes on Iran.
The Public Security Directorate in Amman said that "the meaning of the sirens will be as follows: three intermittent sirens mean there is a threat, and one siren means the threat has passed".
"When you hear the three sirens, it is advisable to stay where you are and not move. If you are outside your home, you should take shelter in the nearest building until the threat has passed," it added in a statement.
The United States and Israel launched a wave of strikes against targets in Iranian cities on Saturday triggering explosions and columns of smoke in the capital Tehran.
The Israeli military said its strikes on Iran, in coordination with the United States, targeted dozens of military sites and followed months of joint planning between the allies.
"The strike targeted dozens of military targets and was carried out as part of a broad, coordinated, and joint operation against the regime," the army said in a statement, cited by AFP.
