Prime minister lays foundation stone for expansion of Prince Faisal Hospital

The Jordan Times

AMMAN — Prime Minister Jafar Hassan on Sunday laid the foundation stone for a new building at Prince Faisal Hospital in Russeifa District, Zarqa Governorate, launching construction works on a project spanning more than 5,700 square metres.

The extension project is roughly equal to the size of the existing hospital, which will undergo comprehensive rehabilitation once the new facility is completed, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported.

The project forms part of the government’s efforts to upgrade healthcare infrastructure and improve service quality across the Kingdom, Petra said.

It will be implemented at an estimated cost of JD9 million, funded by the Saudi Fund for Development (SFD) within the framework of Jordanian-Saudi development cooperation and in support of the health sector in Jordan.

The foundation stone ceremony was attended by Saudi Ambassador to Jordan Prince Mansour bin Khalid bin Farhan Al Saud and CEO of the SFD Sultan bin Abdulrahman Al Marshad.

The Premier expressed Jordan’s appreciation for the continued support of Saudi Arabia and the SFD’s role in financing the hospital expansion and other health-sector projects, according to Petra.

Th prime minister was briefed on the project, which will be executed in three phases across four floors.

The new building will include a full floor dedicated to intensive care, critical care and cardiac care units covering 1,550 square metres, an emergency and accident department spanning 1,303 square metres, advanced operating theatres covering 1,660 square metres, and a 1,270-square-metre floor for educational and support services.

Health Minister Ibrahim Bdour said the project, scheduled for completion within three years, will mark a “qualitative leap” in service delivery by expanding surgical capacity, enhancing intensive and cardiac care services, and upgrading emergency response capabilities, ultimately improving patient experience and healthcare quality.

For his part, Al Marshad said that the expansion will strengthen medical infrastructure, improve vital departments and working environments, and ensure operational sustainability, raising the standard of healthcare in Jordan in line with best international practices.

He highlighted that the project reflects over 48 years of close development cooperation between Jordan and Saudi Arabia, Petra said.

The prime minister had previously inspected the hospital during a field visit and directed the acceleration of expansion procedures.

Since that visit, the hospital has been reinforced with medical, nursing and administrative staff based on actual needs, improving operational readiness, Petra said.

Maintenance works were also carried out in radiology and emergency departments, entrances and external areas were upgraded, and a nursery for employees’ children was rehabilitated and reopened.

Steps have also been taken to classify the hospital as a teaching facility to allow it to receive university trainees, while the existing hospital building will undergo comprehensive renovation and modernisation once the new facility is completed.
