King discusses regional developments with Syrian, Djibouti presidents, Al Azhar Grand imam

AMMAN — His Majesty King Abdullah and Syria President Ahmad Al Sharaa discussed on Thursday, during a phone call, the dangerous developments in the region.
His Majesty reiterated his condemnation of Iran’s targeting of Jordan and a number of countries in the region, asserting that protecting citizens and preserving Jordan’s security and sovereignty is a priority, according to a Royal Court statement.
The two sides emphasised the need to utilise dialogue in order to avoid exacerbating the current crisis.
The call also touched on developments in the West Bank and the need to de-escalate tensions and protect the freedom of worshippers to access Al Aqsa Mosque, especially during the holy month of Ramadan, the statement said.
Also on Thursday, His Majesty received a phone call from Djibouti President Ismail Omar Guelleh, during which they discussed the dangerous escalation in the region.
His Majesty emphasised the need for the sovereignty of states’ to be respected and to step up international efforts to restore calm through dialogue, reiterating that Jordan will continue to take whatever measures necessary to protect its security, stability, and the safety of its citizens, another Royal Court statement said.
His Majesty King received another phone call from Al Azhar Grand Imam Sheikh Ahmed Al Tayeb on Thursday.
The call covered the dangerous escalation in the region, with both sides emphasising the need to stop Iranian attacks on Jordan and other countries in the region, and to utilise dialogue to avoid further conflicts, according to a Royal Court statement.
Imam Al Tayeb expressed his rejection of Iran’s aggression against Jordan, and his condemnation of the violation of Arab states’ sovereignty.
The call also touched on developments in the West Bank and the need to de-escalate tensions and protect the freedom of worshippers to access Al Aqsa Mosque, especially during the holy month of Ramadan.
