Jordan denounces 'illegal, discriminatory' Israeli law allowing execution of Palestinian prisoners

The Jordan Times

AMMAN — The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has condemned the Israeli Knesset’s approval of a law permitting the execution of Palestinian detainees in Israeli prisons, describing it as a "grave" violation of international law and international humanitarian law.

In a statement on Tuesday, the ministry spokesperson, Fuad Majali, said that Jordan unequivocally rejects the “illegal, racist and discriminatory” legislation, stressing that it violates the established principles of international law, which prohibit an occupying power from imposing its authority over occupied territory through unilateral legislative measures.

He added that the law is part of a broader, systematic Israeli policy targeting the Palestinian people and their inalienable rights, including the right to self-determination and the establishment of an independent Palestinian state of their own on the basis of the two-state solution.

Majali urged the international community to assume its legal and moral responsibilities and take “immediate and effective”action to prevent the implementation of the law, and compel Israel to stop its "null and void" decisions, unlawful legislation and illegal unilateral measures targeting the Palestinian people and their presence on their land.
