AMMAN — HRH Princess Rym Ali, member of the Board of Commissioners of the Royal Film Commission (RFC), on Tuesday presided over the graduation ceremony of the first cohort of students at the Jordan Cinema Academy.

During the event, President of the German Jordanian University Alaaldeen Halhouli said the graduation of the first cohort represents a pivotal step in building a competitive Jordanian cinema sector with global reach, while reflecting a strategic partnership based on the belief that investing in human capital is fundamental to sustainable cultural development, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported.

“The university takes pride in hosting this pioneering project, which combines academic education with practical experience and provides Jordanian youth with the tools to be creative and make an impact both locally and internationally,” he said.

Director General of the Royal Film Commission (RFC) Mohannad Bakri highlighted that the Academy serves as a national platform for training a new generation of filmmakers, capable of expressing their stories and identity through a global cinematic language.

“The 12 graduates completed 16 months of practical training across key filmmaking disciplines, including directing, cinematography, screenwriting, sound, editing, and production, with courses overseen by leading film experts from Jordan and the region, preparing them to enter the professional field with confidence,” he said.

As part of the event, attended by a large number of filmmakers and representatives of Jordan’s cinema sector, two films from the graduates’ final projects at the Academy were screened.

The ceremony concluded with Princess Rym presenting the graduates with diplomas in film production, officially accredited by the Vocational Training Corporation of Jordan.

The Jordan Cinema Academy was established in 2024 as a joint initiative between the Royal Film Commission and the German Jordanian University, aiming to develop the next generation of Jordanian filmmakers.

The Academy’s curriculum, which includes faculty members who are professionals from Jordan and the region, was designed by a team of Jordanian and Arab experts.
