Three years on, Jordan’s humanitarian mission in Gaza continues

AMMAN — Jordan has maintained its humanitarian response to the Gaza Strip since the early days of the war, adapting its aid operations to increasingly difficult conditions and restricted access, according to the Jordan Hashemite Charity Organisation (JHCO).

In a statement marking three years of operations in Gaza, the organisation said that it began preparing medical and relief supplies for Gaza on 10 October 2023, acting on the directives of King Abdullah. “Since then, Jordan’s response has evolved to address changing conditions on the ground and the growing humanitarian needs of the population.”

According to the statement, Jordan has mobilised its resources and various delivery routes to send aid into the Strip.

“The efforts have involved coordination between JHCO, the Jordan Armed Forces-Arab Army and other official bodies, in partnership with local and international humanitarian organisations,” the statement said.

As the war intensified and access for humanitarian assistance became increasingly difficult, JHCO said it had expanded its operations beyond the delivery of medical and relief supplies to include land convoys, air bridges and airdrops and worked directly with partners inside Gaza to maintain assistance to the most severely affected families and communities.

“The humanitarian situation became more challenging on 18 September 2025, when all crossings for aid entering Gaza were closed, halting the entry of shipments through these routes for an extended period,” the organisation said.

With conventional delivery routes unavailable, JHCO said it continued its operations inside the war-torn Strip through a network of local partners and teams working on the ground.

“The organisation focus shifted towards sustaining essential services and maintaining projects that could be implemented locally to reach communities across Gaza.”

These efforts have included providing bread, hot meals and drinking water, as well as shelter assistance and basic necessities for displaced families, the statement said, adding that the organisation has also supported healthcare services and worked to strengthen the capacity of medical facilities struggling to meet demand amid sustained pressure on the health system.

“JHCO’s activities have further expanded to include healthcare and community-based projects, specialised medical services, and initiatives targeting children, orphans and families affected by the war.”

The organisation said that these efforts reflected a shift from delivering aid alone towards maintaining a sustained humanitarian presence inside Gaza, despite the obstacles to accessing the territory.

“Over the past three years, access routes have changed, crossings have closed and logistical and operational challenges have increased,” the statement said, adding that JHCO’s central objective had remained the same: finding every possible way to reach people in need.

The statement said that the organisation continues to work to facilitate the entry of aid whenever access routes become available, while maintaining humanitarian programmes and projects inside Gaza in cooperation with partners operating on the ground.

“Despite changes in circumstances, access and humanitarian needs, Jordan remains committed to supporting Gaza’s population and delivering assistance through every available channel,” the statement said.
