AMMAN — Jordan welcomed US President Donald Trump's announcement of an agreement to implement the next phases of a comprehensive peace plan for war-torn Gaza, including arrangements for disarmament and an Israeli withdrawal from the territory. 

 

In a statement issued Friday, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs praised Trump's leadership and efforts in securing a “historic agreement”.

 

The ministry also commended the roles played by Egypt, Qatar, Turkey, the Peace Council, and other regional and international partners whose continued efforts contributed to the agreement.

 

Trump announced the "complete disarmament" of Hamas, calling it a critical step towards a new Palestinian government in Gaza.

 

He said that Israeli forces would withdraw from Gaza "as disarmament is completed".

 

In the statement, the ministry voiced Jordan’s commitment to working with regional and international partners to implement the comprehensive peace plan, which was endorsed by the UN Security Council under Resolution 2803.

 

The ministry stressed the importance of implementing all agreed phases within an agreed timetable to ensure the plan is carried out fully and credibly.

 

It also called for the complete withdrawal of Israeli forces from the Gaza Strip, the deployment of an international stabilisation force, the unhindered delivery of sufficient and sustained humanitarian assistance, and support for reconstruction efforts.

 

The statement also said that the return of the Palestinian Authority to Gaza and the preservation of the unity of the occupied Palestinian territories are essential to the successful implementation of the peace plan and to achieving lasting stability.

 

The ministry also said that the agreement should serve as the starting point for a broader political process leading to the full implementation of the peace plan and the realisation of the Palestinian people's legitimate rights, including the right to self-determination and the establishment of an independent Palestinian state on the June 4, 1967 lines, with East Jerusalem as its capital, on the basis of the two-state solution.
