AMMAN — Jordan on Friday condemned escalating settler attacks against Palestinians in the occupied West Bank, most recently in the Qusra village in Nablus.

 

In a statement, the Foreign Ministry held Israel responsible as the occupying power.

 

Ministry spokesman Fouad Majali said that Jordan “absolutely rejects” the attacks, which were “part of the Israeli government’s extremist policies.”

 

Majali also said that the attacks were taking place alongside continued Israeli measures in the occupied West Bank that Jordan considers unlawful, warning that such actions fuel extremism and violence against Palestinians and undermine prospects for a two-state solution.

 

He called on the international community to fulfill its legal and moral responsibilities by pressing Israel to stop settler attacks, hold those responsible for crimes against Palestinians accountable and prevent them from escaping punishment.

 

The statement also reiterated Jordan’s call for the establishment of an independent and sovereign Palestinian state on the June 4, 1967 borders, with East Jerusalem as its capital.

 

The ministry said that the two-state solution is the only path to a just and comprehensive peace that ensures security and stability in the region.

 

Settlers near Nablus since Sunday have blockaded Palestinian homes, with residents saying they have been cut off from food and other supplies.

 

Violence against Palestinians by Israeli settlers in the West Bank has increased dramatically since the October 7, 2023.

 

More than 500,000 Israelis live in settlements in the West Bank, which are illegal under international law, among some three million Palestinians in the territory.
