AMMAN — The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates on Thursday welcomed an agreement reached by Yemeni parties under UN auspices to release more than 1,600 conflict-related detainees, following talks held in Amman over the past weeks.
Foreign Ministry spokesperson Fuad Majali said Jordan’s hosting of the talks reflects its continued support for UN, Arab, and international efforts to achieve peace, security, and stability in Yemen, in line with the aspirations of the Yemeni people.
Majali also commended the efforts of UN Special Envoy for Yemen Hans Grundberg in reaching the humanitarian agreement on the detainee release, according to a ministry statement.
He also commended the role of the International Committee of the Red Cross and the concerned parties in securing what he described as the largest detainee release since the beginning of the Yemeni conflict.
