AMMAN — The Petra Development and Tourism Region Authority (PDTRA) and UN Women Jordan on Monday signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) aimed at strengthening cooperation to advance women’s economic empowerment and enhance social resilience in the Petra region.

The agreement was signed by PDTRA Commissioner for Local and Environmental Development Fatima Hilalat and UN Women Jordan Deputy Representative Manal Benkirane, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported.

Hilalat said that the partnership will help expand women’s roles in local communities by improving access to vocational training, employment opportunities, and meaningful participation in development initiatives.

Benkirane stressed the importance of advancing women’s economic and social empowerment, describing it as a key pillar of sustainable development and community stability.

Under the agreement, the two sides will work to support development centres as safe and inclusive spaces for women, offering vocational training aligned with labour market needs, expanding economic empowerment opportunities, and improving access to jobs.

The MoU also aims to strengthen gender-responsive approaches in development programmes and promote women’s participation in public life, leadership, and local decision-making, in line with the Sustainable Development Goals and Jordan’s national priorities.
