AMMAN — Senate President Faisal Al Fayez on Wednesday conveyed a verbal message from His Majesty King Abdullah to Uzbek President Shavkat Mirziyoyev, extending the King’s greetings and best wishes for continued progress and prosperity for Uzbekistan and its people under the President’s leadership.

In the message, His Majesty reiterated Jordan’s pride in the "strong and longstanding" relations of friendship with Uzbekistan, stressing the Kingdom’s keenness to further strengthen ties across various fields and to continue coordination and consultation on ways to advance bilateral relations and issues of mutual interest, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported.

President Mirziyoyev expressed his deep appreciation and respect for His Majesty, affirming the strength of relations between the two friendly countries and the convergence of their views on issues of common concern.

President Mirziyoyev also conveyed his greetings to His Majesty and wished Jordan further progress and prosperity, praising the advanced level of bilateral ties and stressing the shared understanding of the importance of expanding cooperation across various sectors.

Al Fayez expressed appreciation for the high level of Jordanian-Uzbek relations that have reached, which are based on mutual respect and cooperation.

He said the visit by him and the accompanying delegation comes as part of the Senate’s efforts to build on the outcomes of His Majesty’s state visit to Uzbekistan, aimed at serving the mutual interests of both countries and opening broader horizons for economic, investment and parliamentary cooperation.

Al Fayez also commended Uzbekistan’s support for His Majesty’s efforts to achieve peace in the Middle East and expressed appreciation for its stance affirming the importance of the Hashemite custodianship over Islamic and Christian holy sites in Jerusalem.

The talks also addressed the importance of implementing agreements reached during the summit between His Majesty and President Mirziyoyev in Samarkand last August, which focused on developing a comprehensive partnership between Jordan and Uzbekistan.

The two sides also stressed the need to activate parliamentary friendship groups in both countries and strengthen their role in implementing signed agreements, in addition to enhancing cooperation in trade, industry, tourism, and cultural and humanitarian fields.

The meeting also underscored the importance of holding the first meeting of the Jordanian-Uzbek Joint Committee and a business forum for leading companies, scheduled to take place in Tashkent later this year.

The meeting was attended by Senators Salameh Hammad, Tawfiq Kreishan, Amer Haddidi and Haifa Najjar, as well as Jordan’s Ambassador to Uzbekistan Dima Haddad. The talks also included an exchange of views on current regional and international developments.
