AMMAN — Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister of Ayman Safadi on Friday received a telephone call from Minister of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation and Moroccans Expatriates of the Kingdom of Morocco Nasser Bourita.

 

During the call, the two ministers discussed the dangerous escalation in Jerusalem and its holy sites resulting from illegal and provocative Israeli measures aimed at altering the historic and legal status quo in the holy city.

 

They emphasized joint efforts to address these actions, according to a Foreign Ministry statement.

 

The phone call falls within the framework of ongoing coordination between the two kingdoms regarding Jerusalem and its holy sites, drawing from the historic Hashemite Custodianship over Islamic and Christian holy sites in Jerusalem exercised by His Majesty King Abdullah and His Majesty King Mohammed VI's chairmanship of the Al Quds Committee.

 

Safadi and Bourita reaffirmed Jordan's and Morocco's strong condemnation of incursions into the Al Aqsa Mosque/Al Haram Al Sharif by Israeli ministers, members of the Knesset, and groups of extremist settlers under the protection of Israeli forces.

 

They also denounced systematic violations against the holy sanctuary and ongoing assaults on unarmed worshippers within its courtyards.

 

The two ministers rejected all attempts to undermine the historic and legal status quo in Jerusalem and its holy sites, describing them as "flagrant" violations of international law and human values.

 

They stressed that the entire 144-dunum Al Aqsa Mosque/Al Haram Al Sharif complex is an exclusive place of worship for Muslims, emphasizing that the Jerusalem Waqf and Al Aqsa Mosque Affairs Department, under the Ministry of Awqaf and Islamic Affairs, is the sole legal authority managing all affairs of the mosque and regulating entry to it.
