AMMAN — Jordan’s unemployment rate fell to 16.1 per cent in the second quarter of 2026, down 0.4 percentage points from 16.5 per cent in the same quarter of 2025, according to the Department of Statistics (DoS).

 

The unemployment rate among Jordanians stood at 21.0 per cent in Q2, compared with 21.3 per cent in the same period last year, marking a decline of 0.3 percentage points, the DoS said in its quarterly report released on Monday.

 

The national unemployment rate has fallen by 1.7 percentage points over the past four years, compared with the second quarter of 2022.

 

Male unemployment among Jordanians recorded a long-term decline of 4.2 percentage points compared with Q2 2021, when it stood at 22.7 per cent, according to the report.

 

Female unemployment among Jordanians also declined, falling by 2.4 percentage points from the first quarter of 2026 and by 2.5 percentage points compared with Q2 2025.

 

The overall unemployment rate among females, including all residents, fell by 5.3 percentage points year-on-year to 19.9 per cent in Q2 2026.

 

Among people aged 24 and above, the unemployment rate stood at 18.0 per cent for Jordanians, compared with 5.8 per cent among non-Jordanians in the same age group.

 

The overall unemployment rate among non-Jordanian residents in the Kingdom stood at 8.2 per cent during the second quarter of 2026, the report added.
