The Jordan Times

AMMAN — Development of the Porto Dead Sea project is expected to continue through 2033, with the beachfront development scheduled for completion by the end of 2028, the Jordan Free and Development Zones Group (JFDZ) said on Monday.

JFDZ Chairman Sakher Ajlouni said that the group had regulated contractual arrangements with the investing company and set deadlines for completing the project’s development phases.

An amended agreement signed in December 2024 set deadlines for developing the beachfront and hillside plots and regulated ownership transfers in line with applicable laws and contractual terms, Ajlouni said.

The first phase, covering nine dunums, has been completed. It includes 151 hotel apartments and Building A, which houses a reception area, a function hall, administrative offices, a tourist restaurant and commercial shops.

The phase also includes 11 hotel apartments, two swimming pools and an equipped beach.

The second phase, covering five dunums, is scheduled for completion by the end of 2027. It includes 117 hotel apartments, 12 cabanas, two hotel buildings with around 69 rooms, a restaurant and a café.

The third phase, covering six dunums, is expected to be completed by the end of 2028. It comprises 147 hotel apartments, 12 cabanas, two hotel buildings with around 58 rooms and 20 commercial shops.

Ajlouni said that the group was following up on the investor’s obligations and coordinating with relevant authorities to complete the required procedures, including transferring ownership to buyers in accordance with applicable legislation and agreements.

He said that completing the project on schedule would diversify tourism offerings at the Dead Sea, attract tourism and real estate investment, support hospitality and service businesses, create direct and indirect jobs and contribute to economic activity in the area.

Porto Dead Sea Chairman and Arab Developers Holding Group CEO Ayman Bin Mokhtar Khalifa said that work was progressing according to the set timelines.

Khalifa said buyers of previously completed units would receive their title deeds within weeks, allowing them to complete ownership registration procedures in accordance with the approved requirements.

The project comprises a 19.5-dunum beachfront plot planned for five towers with hotel apartments and tourism, commercial and service facilities, and a 786-dunum hillside plot designated for villas, hotel apartments, a four-star hotel with 200 rooms, recreational and commercial facilities and green spaces.

Khalifa said around 45 per cent of development work on the beachfront plot had been completed, with the work expected to finish by the end of 2028. Development of the hillside plot is scheduled to begin at the end of 2028 and continue through 2033.

Plans for the hillside site include tourist villas of various sizes with private swimming pools, residential apartments, a hotel, restaurants, cafés, a health and sports club, a water park, sports courts, shared swimming pools and green spaces.
