AMMAN — His Majesty King Abdullah, in a phone call with King Philippe of the Belgians on Thursday, called for stepping up international efforts to achieve comprehensive calm in the region.
His Majesty reiterated that Iran’s attacks on Jordan and a number of countries in the region are a violation of state sovereignty and a dangerous escalation that threatens to expand the conflict, according to a Royal Court statement.
The King reaffirmed the need to resolve conflicts through diplomatic means, emphasising that Jordan’s priority is to protect its citizens, security, and stability.
Also on Thursday, His Majesty received a phone call from Canada Prime Minister Mark Carney, during which they condemned Iran’s infringements on the sovereignty of a number of countries in the region, stressing the need to de-escalate the current situation.
His Majesty reiterated that Jordan will continue to take all necessary measures to protect its security, stability, and the safety of its citizens, another Royal Court statement said.
The King also called for restraint and utilising dialogue to resolve crises.
