AMMAN — Audit Bureau President Radhi Hamadeen underlined the importance of enhancing the role of supreme audit institutions (SAIs) in safeguarding public funds and supporting fiscal sustainability.
Speaking at the "Forum on Restoring Public Finances" at the headquarters of the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) in Paris, Al Hamadeen noted that the forum addressed rising global fiscal challenges, including high public debt and mounting budgetary pressures.
He stressed the need to modernise oversight tools and leverage digital technology to improve auditing efficiency, according to an Audit Bureau statement.
The forum concluded with key recommendations aimed at strengthening fiscal stability, implementing medium-term budgetary frameworks, and utilising spending reviews to reprioritise resources towards high-impact programmes.
Participants highlighted the necessity of managing high-growth expenditure sectors, such as healthcare, through long-term fiscal planning.
They also called for streamlining government procedures using digital technology and Artificial Intelligence (AI) to achieve sustainable savings.
On the sidelines of the forum, Al Hamadeen attended the annual meeting of OECD senior budget officials and SAI heads to discuss the impact of AI and climate change on public finances, alongside enhancing risk-based performance auditing, according to the statement.
Hammadeen also held meetings with OECD officials to discuss upcoming joint projects in Jordan aimed at developing oversight mechanisms and adopting international best practices in governance.
