AMMAN — The Jordan Armed Forces – Arab Army (JAF) said that the Eastern Military Zone thwarted on Sunday ten attempts to smuggle large quantities of narcotics into the Kingdom using electronically guided balloons.

 

According to a JAF statement, the balloons were launched simultaneously in an apparent effort to distract border guard units and evade surveillance along the eastern frontier.

 

Border Guard units, maintaining close monitoring and precise tracking of the objects, intercepted and brought down the balloons and their payloads inside Jordanian territory in coordination with military security agencies and the Anti-Narcotics Department, JAF said.

 

The seized narcotics were transferred to the relevant authorities to complete legal procedures, the statement said.

 

The JAF reaffirmed its commitment to deploying all available capabilities and resources to prevent infiltration and smuggling operations, stressing that efforts will continue to safeguard the Kingdom’s security and stability.
