AMMAN — A delegation from the Lower House on Thursday met with Lebanese Foreign Minister Youssef Rajji in Beirut to discuss the longstanding ties between Jordan and Lebanon and reaffirm Jordan’s support for Lebanon’s sovereignty and state authority.

 

The meeting focused on the longstanding fraternal and historic ties between Jordan and Lebanon, as well as Jordan’s continued support for Lebanon across various fields, Al Mamlaka TV reported.

 

Rajji, who met the delegation in the presence of Lebanon’s Ambassador to Jordan Brigitte Tawkand Father Joseph Soueid, Patriarchal Vicar of the Maronite Church in Jordan, emphasised the depth of the relations between the two countries.

 

He thanked Jordan for its continued support and solidarity with Lebanon under the leadership of His Majesty King Abdullah, describing the ties between the two countries and their peoples as rooted in friendship and brotherhood.

 

The Jordanian lawmakersreaffirmed their support for Lebanon’s sovereignty and for the Lebanese state’s efforts to restore full authority over its territory and ensure that weapons are held exclusively by the state.

 

The delegation also stressed that Jordan stands firmly alongside Lebanon in various fields.

 

The talks also addressed plans to build the Maronite Church of the Baptism of Jesus Christ at Al-Maghtas, the baptism site on the banks of the Jordan River. The site is listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site and is traditionally identified as the location where Jesus Christ was baptized.

 

Rajji also outlined the Lebanese government’s position on strengthening state authority across the country. He reiterated Lebanon’s key demands, including Israel’s complete withdrawal from occupied Lebanese territory, the recovery of remaining occupied areas, the reconstruction of damaged regions, ensuring residents can return to their villages, and the release of Lebanese prisoners.
