JEPCO smart metre rollout reaches 95% as grid losses decline

The Jordan Times

AMMAN — The Jordan Electric Power Company (JEPCO) has made significant progress in modernising its technical and operational grid, with the total number of subscriptions in its concession area reaching nearly 1.643 million.

JEPCO has installed around 1.558 million smart metres, representing a completion rate of 95 per cent in its efforts to computerise and institutionalise remote measurement and control systems, according to the company’s semi-annual financial data published on the Amman Stock Exchange website.

At the operational level, JEPCO has also made progress in developing its distribution network, reducing electricity losses by 0.88 percentage points to 11.38 per cent at the end of 2025, compared with 12.26 per cent in 2024, according to figures reported by Al Mamlaka TV.

The decline resulted from a package of measures aimed at reducing technical losses, including the addition of new primary and secondary substations and the introduction of modern feeders across various voltage levels. The measures are intended to ensure a continuous and efficient power supply while reducing capital and operational costs.

Meanwhile, financial data showed that revenues collected from government and semi-government entities rose to JD77.57 million in the period ending June 30, 2026, compared with JD73.106 million during the same period in 2025.
