AMMAN — Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ayman Safadi on Tuesday held a series of phone calls with regional and international counterparts, focusing on efforts to contain escalating tensions and advance diplomatic pathways to restore security and stability.

In a call with French Foreign Minister Jean-Noel Barrot, Safadi discussed the regional escalation and prospects for ending it, stressing that de-escalation is a prerequisite for restoring stability.

He reiterated Jordan's condemnation of Iranian attacks targeting the Kingdom and several Arab and Islamic countries, while Barrot affirmed France’s solidarity with Jordan, according to a Foreign Ministry statement.

Both ministers underscored the need to activate diplomacy to end the crisis, safeguard regional and international peace, and ensure respect for international law, state sovereignty and non-interference in internal affairs.

They also reviewed developments in Lebanon, where Safadi called for an end to Israeli aggression and reaffirmed support for Lebanon’s security, stability and sovereignty across all its territory, including backing the government’s decision to restrict arms to state control.

The talks also covered developments in the Gaza Strip and the occupied West Bank, with Safadi warning that continued Israeli measures are undermining prospects for a just peace. He called for effective international action to halt these practices, including restrictions on freedom of worship and measures preventing Muslims and Christians from performing religious rites at holy sites.

In a separate call, Safadi and Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty emphasised the importance of de-escalation and strengthened Arab coordination to address shared challenges. The two ministers reiterated their condemnation of Iranian attacks on Jordan and Gulf countries, stressing solidarity in safeguarding Arab national security.

They highlighted the need to uphold international law and state sovereignty as the basis for regional stability and discussed preparations for the upcoming session of the League of Arab States Council at the level of foreign ministers, scheduled for the end of March, noting its importance in shaping a unified Arab position on current challenges.

The talks also addressed developments in Lebanon, with both sides reaffirming support for its sovereignty and backing the restriction of arms to state control, while condemning Israeli actions and expansionist policies.

Safadi and Abdelatty stressed that international focus on tensions with Iran must not come at the expense of efforts to end the humanitarian crisis in the Gaza Strip and halt Israeli measures in the West Bank that undermine prospects for a just peace.

They condemned attacks by Israeli settlers against Palestinians as a flagrant violation of international law, and warned against Israeli measures restricting freedom of worship for Muslims and Christians at holy sites.

In a third call, Safadi and Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan discussed ways to contain the escalation and limit its political, security and economic repercussions. They also reviewed efforts to end the humanitarian crisis in Gaza and halt Israeli measures in the West Bank, reiterating the need for coordinated international action.

Safadi conveyed condolences over the death of Turkish personnel affiliated with joint Qatari-Turkish forces in a helicopter crash in Qatar.

In a separate conversation with Qatari Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani, Safadi on Monday discussed prospects for ending the escalation and restoring stability through dialogue and diplomacy. The two officials affirmed solidarity in the face of Iranian attacks targeting both countries.

Safadi also expressed condolences over the death of four members of the Qatari Armed Forces and three Turkish personnel in the helicopter crash, caused by a technical malfunction.
