AMMAN — The Swiss embassy in Jordan on Wednesday celebrated the Swiss National Day, bringing together more than 1,000 guests, including more than 200 children, for an evening celebrating the longstanding friendship and strong ties between Switzerland and Jordan.

Hosted by Ambassador of Switzerland to Jordan Emilija Georgieva, the celebration gathered representatives of Jordanian institutions, the diplomatic community, international organisations, the private sector, civil society, the Swiss community in Jordan as well as partners and friends of Switzerland, according to an embassy statement.

The evening provided an opportunity to celebrate the close relationship between Switzerland and Jordan, which spans more than 75 years and continues to grow through cooperation and exchanges between institutions, businesses, universities, organisations and, above all, people.

In her remarks, Georgieva highlighted the values at the heart of Switzerland’s engagement in Jordan: trust, innovation and shared values.

“For me, it’s much more than a National Day celebration,” Ambassador Georgieva said.

“It is an image of where the Swiss-Jordanian network stands today. And from what I see, I can assure you that it is a beautiful and colourful image that goes across different sectors of society and – most importantly – across all ages,” she added.

These values are reflected in several areas of Swiss-Jordanian cooperation.

Environment and science diplomacy are important fields in which Swiss and Jordanian expertise have merged, especially through cooperation on water and environmental challenges.

Initiatives such as Blue Peace Middle East, whose Water Diplomacy Centre is hosted at the Jordan University of Science and Technology, demonstrate how scientific knowledge and dialogue can contribute to addressing regional challenges.

Fostering education and opportunities for young people is another important dimension of the relationship. Switzerland supports initiatives aimed at strengthening vocational and technical skills and creating pathways towards employment.

The ambassador highlighted partnerships that represent this engagement and were featured in the evening, such as the Royal Academy of Culinary Arts contribution to the evening, as students of the academy were serving traditional Swiss foods such as Raclette and Bratwurst.

The growing community of Jordanian alumni who graduated from Swiss institutions further demonstrates the strong people-to-people ties between the two countries.

Through education, professional exchanges and networks, as they are cultivated by for example the Swiss Jordanian Alumni association, these connections continue to build bridges between Switzerland and Jordan and create opportunities for future cooperation.

Georgieva also mentioned the embassy’s partnership with Turquoise Mountain in the field of vocational training.

“We are proud to work with you in the field of vocational training,” she said, inviting guests to visit the organisation’s booth at the celebration and support its work.

Beyond highlighting these areas of cooperation, the Swiss National Day was also an occasion to celebrate together.

Guests enjoyed an evening filled with Swiss food, music and entertainment, bringing a taste of Switzerland to Amman, while reflecting the warmth and hospitality that characterise the people of both countries.

Music and DJ performances accompanied the evening. A dedicated children’s area offered creative, craft and sports activities, making the celebration an event for guests of all ages.

The Swiss National Day celebration was made possible thanks to the support of 18 sponsors, whose contributions helped bring together the Swiss and Jordanian communities for the embassy’s largest annual celebration to date.

With over 1,000 guests, the evening reflected the large web of relationships that have developed between Switzerland and Jordan over the years, from diplomacy and development cooperation to science, education, business, culture and personal connections.

The embassy looks forward to continuing to strengthen these ties and to creating new opportunities for Swiss-Jordanian exchange and cooperation in the years ahead.
