AMMAN — The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates on Tuesday said all Jordanians in Colombia are safe following the earthquake that struck the country, urging them to exercise utmost caution and comply with instructions issued by the relevant authorities.

Foreign Ministry spokesperson Fouad Majali reaffirmed that the ministry, through its Operations and Consular Affairs Directorate and the Jordanian Embassy in Brazil, is following up on providing the necessary assistance and support to all Jordanians in Colombia.

He extended the Kingdom’s deepest condolences to the government and people of Colombia and the families of the victims of the earthquake.

A magnitude 7.4 earthquake struck western Colombia on Monday, killing at least 111 people, toppling dozens of buildings and reverberating in nearby countries too.

Emergency teams rushed to help victims and search for survivors under the rubble after the quake hit the coastal Choco region at 7:34 am local time.

The earthquake was centred about 100 kilometres (60 miles) beneath the municipality of San José del Palmar, according to AFP.
