AMMAN — Arab countries and the Cairo-based Arab League on Monday condemned renewed Iranian attacks targeting Jordan and the United Arab Emirates, warning that the acts of aggression threaten regional security and violate the sovereignty of the two countries.

 

Nabil Fahmy, Secretary-General of the League of Arab Statesdenounced the attacks in the strongest terms, saying they represented a blatant violation of Jordanian and Emirati sovereignty and territorial integrity, as well as a breach of international law and the UN Charter.

 

Fahmy said in a statement that any threat to the security of an Arab country or attack on its territory, regardless of the justification, is unacceptable.

 

He expressed the pan-Arab organisation’s full solidarity with Jordan and the UAE and its support for measures taken by the two countries to protect their security, sovereignty and territorial integrity. He also stressed that the security of Jordan and the UAE was an integral part of Arab national security.

 

Fahmy rejected Iran’s justifications for attacks on Arab countries and called on Tehran to respect the sovereignty of Arab states.

 

He also said that preserving regional security and stability required adherence to international law, prioritising dialogue, and avoiding actions that could widen the conflict or put the region’s security and the interests of its people at risk.

 

The UAE also strongly condemned the Iranian missile attacks targeting Jordan.

 

The UAE Ministry of Foreign Affairs condemned the attacks in a statement as a flagrant violation of Jordan’s sovereignty and a threat to its security and stability.

 

Qatar condemned the renewed Iranian attacks on Jordan and UAE as a “serious violation of the sovereignty and territorial integrity of both countries and a breach of international law, the UN Charter and the principles of good-neighborly relations.”

 

Egypt likewise condemned the renewed Iranian attacks on Jordan and the UAE, expressing deep concern over their continuation and warning that they posed a direct threat to the security of the two countries and their populations.

 

Cairo also warned that an expansion of the conflict could further undermine efforts to restore stability in the region.

 

Kuwait’s Foreign Ministry strongly condemned the Iranian attacks on Jordan early Monday, saying the missile strikes violated the Kingdom’s sovereignty and territorial integrity and threatened regional security and stability.

 

Al-Azhar Al-Sharif, Egypt’s leading Islamic institution, also condemned the renewed attacks on Jordan and the UAE, rejecting what it called blatant aggression and warning of the threat to civilians and regional stability.

 

Al-Azhar called on Iran to respect the principles of good-neighborly relations and to halt attacks against its Muslim neighbors, which it described as prohibited under Islamic law.
