The Jordan Times

AMMAN — Day two of the Regional Forum on Digital Violence against Women, shed spotlight on the digital violence practiced on women on the frontlines and conflict zones, providing a regional snapshot from the experiences of different countries.

The forum, the first of its kind in the region, was organised by Canadian think-and-do tank SecDev in cooperation with the Information and Research Centre-King Hussein Foundation (IRCKHF), and funded by the International Development Research Centre of Canada.

Focusing more on the cooperation with Jordanian entities with the aim to locally combat digital violence against women, MENA Senior Programme Manager at SecDev Foundation Raed Sharif, said that the IRCKHF has been a major contributor to address the phenomenon in the Kingdom.

He also told The Jordan Times that “Karak Castle Centre has played a crucial role in spreading awareness and talking about digital violence in a number of governorates in Jordan”.

Adding that usually, major awareness initiatives are only focused in capital cities, and what Karak Castle Centre has done is change such thing.

Additionally, the forum has brought about various dimensions of the many effects caused by violence against women in the digital world.

During the two days, focus was placed on Digital Violence Against Women in the MENA region, bringing together key stakeholders from across the region, including researchers, practitioners, international organisations and government officials.
