JIEC unveils opportunities for Chinese industrial clusters

AMMAN — The Jordan Industrial Estates Corporation (JIEC) confirmed on Saturday that it will offer Chinese investors the opportunity to establish specialised Chinese industrial clusters in the electrical, electronic, engineering and metal industries, among other sectors.

The initiative follows His Majesty King Abdullah’s meetings with major Chinese industrial companies, during which he invited them to invest in the Kingdom.

Industrial estates are the primary base for welcoming these investments, as they provide the infrastructure needed to accommodate industrial projects and translate economic relations between the two countries into tangible, productive ventures, JIEC said in a statement.

It added that the coming phase presents an opportunity to showcase investment opportunities available in industrial estates to the Chinese business community, particularly at the Zarqa Industrial Estate (ZIE).

Zarqa has been declared an environmentally friendly city and is poised to attract major investments in technology and electronics, as well as to localise value-added industries, logistics, agricultural technology and pharmaceuticals, while increasing Jordanian exports.

JIEC Director General Odei Obaidat said the corporation would convey this message to the Chinese business community, building on the outcomes of the King’s current visit to China.

He said Chinese investors would find Jordan to be an “integrated industrial platform”, enabling them to produce and export to regional and global markets.

Obaidat pledged the corporation’s cooperation with various Jordanian industrial entities to build strong partnerships aimed at attracting industrial investments.

This will be achieved by unifying promotional efforts and leveraging Jordan’s extensive network of free trade agreements, its strategic geographic location linking the Gulf, Iraq, the Levant and North Africa, and Aqaba’s position as a maritime gateway, the director general said.
