Safadi meets Algerian counterpart, receives Tebboune message to King

AMMAN — Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Ayman Safadi on Sunday met with Algerian Foreign Minister Ahmed Attaf, who delivered a message from Algerian President Abdelmadjid Tebboune to His Majesty King Abdullah.
 
Attaf is visiting Jordan ahead of the Arab Consultative Meeting and the 165th ordinary session of the Council of the League of Arab States at ministerial level, which will resume in Amman on Monday.
 
During the meeting, Safadi and Attaf discussed bilateral relations and regional developments, according to a Foreign Ministry statement.
 
The two ministers also reviewed the longstanding relations between Jordan and Algeria and stressed the importance of expanding cooperation in areas of mutual interest.
 
They agreed to deepen cooperation, particularly in the economic, agricultural, healthcare and pharmaceutical sectors.
 
They also discussed activating the Jordanian-Algerian Business Forum and exploring preferential trade arrangements for selected goods and products to boost bilateral trade and serve mutual interests.
 
Both sides further agreed to begin preparations for the 10th session of the Jordanian-Algerian Joint Ministerial Committee, as part of efforts to strengthen cooperation across various sectors.
 
On regional developments, the ministers reviewed efforts to de-escalate tensions and restore calm, stressing the need to achieve lasting security and stability.
 
They also discussed developments in the occupied Palestinian territories, emphasising the importance of sustaining stability in Gaza and ensuring the uninterrupted flow of humanitarian aid into the enclave.
 
The two ministers stressed the need to stop Israeli violations in the occupied West Bank, including settlement expansion, settler violence and land confiscation, as well as attempts to alter the historical and legal status quo at Jerusalem’s Islamic and Christian holy sites.
 
The talks also addressed preparations for the upcoming Arab Consultative Meeting of Foreign Ministers and the resumed 165th ordinary session of the Council of the League of Arab States at ministerial level.
 
Both sides underscored the importance of enhanced Arab coordination in addressing shared regional challenges.
 
They reaffirmed their commitment to continued consultation and coordination on bilateral cooperation and regional and international issues of mutual concern.
