Cold front to bring rain, hail, flash floods, thunderstorms across Jordan through Thursday — JMD

The Jordan Times

AMMAN — Jordan will gradually be affected by an extension of a low-pressure system on Wednesday, bringing cold weather and partly to fully cloudy skies, the Jordan Meteorological Department (JMD) said on Monday.

Intermittent rain showers are expected over northern and central regions, as well as parts of the southwest, gradually spreading to most areas. Rain may be heavy at times, accompanied by thunder and hail during the evening and night, posing a risk of flash flooding in valleys and low-lying areas, including the Jordan Valley and the Dead Sea.

South-westerly winds will be moderate, occasionally becoming active. Warnings include reduced visibility due to fog and low clouds over mountains and plains, possible thunderstorms, dust-related visibility reductions in desert areas and slippery road conditions during rainfall, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported.

On Thursday, temperatures are expected to drop further, with cold, cloudy, and rainy conditions prevailing across northern and central regions. Rain may again be heavy at times, with thunderstorms and hail leading to flash flooding in valleys and low-lying areas. Showers are expected to extend to the eastern and southwestern parts of the country overnight.

South-westerly winds will remain moderate, occasionally active. Authorities warned of flash flood risks, fog over mountains and plains, thunderstorms, dust in desert areas, and slippery roads during rainfall.
