Palestinian Oscar-Winning Director Basel Adra said 'Israeli' Soldiers raided his Home in the West Bank on Saturday, searching for him and going through his Wife’s Phone.
Adra told the Associated Press that 'Israeli' Settlers attacked his Village, injuring two of his Brothers and a Cousin. He accompanied them to the Hospital, where he learned from Family that nine 'Israeli' Soldiers had stormed his Home.
The Soldiers asked his Wife, Suha, about his Whereabouts and searched her Phone while their nine-month-old Daughter was at Home. They also briefly detained one of his Uncles.
As of Saturday night, Adra said he could not return Home because Soldiers were blocking the Village entrance, and he feared Detention. 'Israel’s' Military did not immediately respond to requests for Comment.
Adra, a Journalist and Filmmaker, has documented Settler Violence in Masafer Yatta, the southern West Bank area where he was born. Following an attack on his Co-Director, Hamdan Ballal, in March, Adra said he felt they were being targeted more aggressively since winning the Oscar.
He described Saturday’s events as “Horrific.” “Even if you are just filming the Settlers, the Army comes and chases you, searches your Home,” he said. “The whole System is built to attack us, to terrify us, to make us very scared.”
Co-Director Yuval Abraham expressed concern for Adra’s Safety. “I’m very afraid for Basel right now,” he said.
The Red Crescent confirmed it treated three Palestinians injured during the settler attack, two of whom were transferred to a hospital.
Adra co-directed the Oscar-winning documentary No Other Land, which depicts the struggle of Masafer Yatta Residents to prevent the 'Israeli' Military from demolishing their Villages.
The joint Palestinian-'Israeli' Production, made with Hamdan Ballal, Yuval Abraham, and Rachel Szor, has won multiple International Awards since premiering at the Berlin International Film Festival in 2024.
