AMMAN — HRH Prince Hassan, honorary president of the El Hassan Youth Award, on Sunday stressed the importance of empowering young people and preparing them to become responsible leaders capable of contributing to community development.

 

Speaking during a meeting with participants of the “Sabelat El Hassan 2026" programme, held at Al Karameh Hall at the Greater Madaba Municipality, Prince Hassan stressed that investing in human resources through education, work and public service forms the foundation for achieving sustainable development and safeguarding human dignity.

 

The prince noted that holding the meeting at the municipality carries symbolic importance linked to institutional, service and urban development, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported.

 

"Municipal work forms a fundamental pillar in serving local communities", the prince said, stressing that the role of youth goes beyond consuming services to actively shaping their cities through entrepreneurial ideas, volunteer work and community initiatives

 

Highlighting national industry as a cornerstone of self-reliance and economic growth, Prince Hassan called on young people to engage in productive sectors and leverage technology, automation and artificial intelligence to enhance the competitiveness of Jordanian products and open new markets.

 

He also called for fostering creative thinking and transforming challenges facing Jordan into opportunities for innovation and entrepreneurship, particularly in water, energy, agriculture, services, education and logistics.

 

Limited resources have consistently served as a catalyst for Jordanian innovation, Prince Hassan said, noting that knowledge and innovation have become critical national assets in the modern era.

 

Prince Hassan also highlighted the Multidimensional Deprivation Index as a vital tool for gaining a comprehensive understanding of community needs by assessing various dimensions of deprivation beyond income indicators alone.

 

The prince emphasised that utilising accurate data and knowledge remains essential for setting priorities and formulating development policies that ensure resources and services reach the most vulnerable groups and areas.

 

Director of the El Hassan Youth Award Khawla Hassan said that Sabelat El Hassan 2026 continues the journey of the programme launched in 1991 under the patronage and support of Prince Hassan to empower youth and bolster their leadership roles in serving the nation.

 

She noted that participants undertook field visits and activities spanning historical, religious, archaeological and environmental sites, alongside national, economic, industrial and logistics institutions, coupled with training, athletic, intellectual and volunteer initiatives.

 

Head of the Greater Madaba Municipality Committee Haitham Jweinat praised the programme’s role in enhancing youth knowledge of Jordan’s history and institutions while reinforcing teamwork, dedication and belonging.

 

He emphasised the importance of such meetings in enhancing intergenerational communication, connecting youth with their local communities and encouraging active participation in the development process.

 

Prince Hassan engaged in a discussion with participants, hearing their experiences and impressions from visits to various governorates and exchanging views on the insights gained throughout the programme.

 

First launched in 1991 as a core component of the El Hassan Youth Award, Sabelat El Hassan provides a national field experience combining education, exploration, training and community service aimed at fostering leadership, self-reliance and civic responsibility among youth.
