King, France president discuss ties, witness signing of defence cooperation agreement in Paris

AMMAN — His Majesty King Abdullah and France President Emmanuel Macron held talks on Thursday, during which they discussed the deep-rooted ties between Jordan and France.
 
During the talks, held at Les Invalides in Paris, His Majesty emphasised the importance of the partnership between the two countries in vital areas, noting that the signing of a defence cooperation agreement during the visit builds upon ongoing coordination to safeguard their shared security, and support efforts to achieve regional stability, according to a Royal Court statement.
 
The King thanked France and President Macron for hosting the latest round of Aqaba Process meetings, covering ways to support the Lebanese Armed Forces, and underscored the importance of maintaining coordination with partner countries and international organisations in this context.
 
Speaking about recent regional developments, His Majesty called for stepping up international efforts to restore calm, stressing the importance of respecting the sovereignty of Arab states and working to ensure their security.
 
For his part, President Macron reaffirmed his country’s support for the measures Jordan is taking to safeguard its security and the safety of its citizens, and commended the Kingdom’s efforts to achieve peace in the region.
 
On the sidelines of the meeting, the two leaders witnessed the signing of a defence cooperation agreement between the Governments of Jordan and France, which reflects the two countries’ commitment to continuing to deepen their defence partnership, and provides a comprehensive framework for organising various aspects of cooperation in this field, in service of mutual interests and to strengthen Jordan and France’s joint contribution to consolidating security and stability in the region.
 
Upon arrival at Les Invalides, an official welcoming ceremony was held for the King.
